TOURS, ACTIVITIES AND DISPLAYS

  • Meet Engineering and IT Academics
Academics from all Engineering and Information Technology specialisations will be available to answer your questions at the information booths located in the PNR Drawing Room 1 Engineering Precinct.
  • Advanced Engineering Projects – Designing technology using low cost, sustainable energy
Take a look at the advanced engineering projects in the PNR Drawing Room 2, Engineering Precinct, between 11.30am - 2:00pm. You will have the opportunity to speak to first year students and find out about the projects on which they are currently working. At 1pm, prizes will be awarded to the best projects – come and cast your vote beforehand!
  • Engineering & IT BBQ
From 12:30pm to 2.30pm the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies will be hosting a free BBQ organised by SUEUA (the Undergraduate Engineering Student Association). Come down to the Engineering Precinct for an opportunity to speak to some current students. Engineering Library Lawn, Engineering Precinct.
  • Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering tours
Tours depart from the PNR Bridge, Engineering Precinct, all day. Come and see the first year teaching laboratory, three storey distillation column, crystalliser, computer facilities, and many other interesting demonstrations. Make your own silly putty and enjoy a cup of coffee and cake at "Cafe Chem Eng".
  • Civil Engineering tours
Fancy seeing steel and concrete breaking? Or perhaps experience our wave machine? Our wind engineering, fluids, structures and geomechanics laboratories will be open all day and you can drop in at any time between 10 am and 3.30 pm.
  • Electrical and Information Engineering tours
Electrical and Information Engineering laboratories will be open for inspection and questions. Come and discover what Electrical and Information Engineering is all about. Tours will be departing from the PNR Foyer, Engineering Precinct following the Electrical and Information Engineering 10:30am and 12.30pm mini lectures.
  • Information Technologies Tours
We live in an information and communication technology era, yet we take so much of this for granted: from email to the internet, wireless networks to multimedia technology. Come on a tour to find out more about IT. Tours depart from the PNR foyer, Engineering Precinct following the Computer Science and Information Systems 11:00am and 1:30pm mini lectures.
  • Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering tours
Meet in the PNR Foyer for a fascinating trip through our aeronautical engineering laboratories where you will see the flight simulator, the wind tunnels, unmanned aerial vehicles, and the prototype aircraft. Tours depart from the PNR foyer, Engineering Precinct following the Aeronautical Engineering 10:00am and 1:30pm mini lectures.
  • Aeronautical Engineering tours
Meet in the PNR Foyer for a fascinating trip through our aeronautical engineering laboratories where you will see the flight simulator, the wind tunnels, unmanned aerial vehicles, and the prototype aircraft. Tours depart from the PNR foyer, Engineering Precinct following the Aeronautical Engineering 10:00am and 1:30pm mini lectures.
  • Biomedical Engineering Display
Biomedical Engineering welcomes visitors to its new Tissue Engineering and Biomaterial Labs. Hands-on displays outlining our research and current orthopaedic implant technology will be on show. Make sure you see our BOSE biomaterials test machine in action - the only one in the Southern Hemisphere! Academic staff and senior students will be present to walk visitors through our labs and provide information about Biomedical Engineering. Meet in the Mechanical Engineering Foyer, Engineering Precinct throughout the day. Additionally, there will be a tour departing from the PNR Foyer, Engineering Precinct following the Biomedical Engineering 2pm mini lecture.
  • Meet our Intelligent Robot
Ever wished you had a Robot at your beck & call? What would you get the Robot to do? You will be given the opportunity to learn how to program our Intelligent Robot in order to do specific tasks and make it work for you. This activity is available throughout the day and is located in the PNR Drawing Room 1 Engineering Precinct.
  • Civil engineering – Steel tower
Come down to the Engineering Precinct and take part in the construction of an 8 metre high tower of steel. The tower project is the centrepiece of our introduction to civil engineering issues such as loads, strength, design, construction, safety and teamwork. Civil Engineering Lawn, Engineering Precinct.
  • Formula SAE-A competition car
One of our Formula SAE-A (FSAE) competition cars will be displayed in the Quadrangle. This is a great opportunity to speak to current students who have been working on the car about issues related to vehicle manufacturing.
