- offer opportunities for companies to get to know the students and;
- give final year students scope to undertake ‘real’ world research projects.

Please find below further details of the Research Industry Placement Project Scholarship (RIPPS), the Summer and Research Placement Project Scholarship (SARPPS) & the Major Industrial Placement Project Scholarship (MIPPS).
RIPPS (Research Industry Placement Project Scholarship)
26 days duration: two days a week in first semester or one day a week in semesters one and two.

- integrates Research Project / thesis with Industrial experience.
- students receive academic credit for industrial experience
- all students must have a minimum of a credit average
- all students considered appropriate will go into a pool
- companies will be invited to participate in the interview process
- companies will not necessarily receive the student of their choice for the placement but will not be forced to take a student
- companies will be guaranteed the student they receive is from the pool. The suitability of the placement and the likely research topic and an appropriate student to fit requirements will be decided jointly between the academic liaison supervisor, the company and the student and;
- if companies, especially IT companies, are unable to provide a research topic this does not prohibit them having a student as long as they are provided with meaningful developmental work project work.
SARPPS (Summer & Research Placement Project Scholarship)
10 -12 weeks duration that is, 60 days over the summer plus: two days a week in first semester or one day a week over both semesters one and two.
Total duration: approximately 86 days.

- if companies especially IT companies are unable to provide a research topic this does not prohibit them having a student as long as they are provided with meaningful developmental project work. The Academic Supervisor will visit the student at least twice over the placement period.
MIPPS (Major Industrial Placement Project Scholarship)

- all students considered appropriate will go into a pool

- companies will not necessarily receive the student of their choice for the placement but will not be forced to take a student
- all companies will be guaranteed the student they receive is from the pool
- the suitability of the placement and the likely research topic and an appropriate student to fit requirements will be decided jointly between the academic liaison supervisor, the company and the student
- if companies especially IT companies are unable to provide a research topic this does not prohibit them having a student as long as they are provided with meaningful developmental project work
- the Academic Supervisor will normally visit the Company’s premises monthly for a progress meeting, and arrange to see the student, where this is feasible, at set times between such meetings, and;
- three presentations will be expected from students: two in the School (again, if feasible) and at least one "in-house" on completion, if required by the Company.
Special Requirements: Students will be required to incorporate in their work Industry Case Studies in core curriculum areas of their degree program. Students are expected to show a proficiency in each of these case studies comparable with that which would be achieved in the units of study they are replacing.
