Mechatronic engineering is the study of computer-controlled systems that form the basis of the 'intelligent' products that are ubiquitous in today's society.

Drawing on aspects of disciplines such as mechanical, electrical and systems engineering, as well as computer science, it provides the foundation for cutting-edge technologies in fields including robotics, manufacturing, aerospace and bioengineering.

We offer an exciting range of undergraduate and postgraduate research opportunities in mechatronic engineering and robotics.


At undergraduate level, we offer a four-year Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Mechatronic) degree program, while a five-year combined degree program with project management, arts, science, commerce, law, music or medical science is also available.

Our undergraduate programs are accredited by Engineers Australia.

At the postgraduate level we offer mechatronic units of study within the Master of Engineering as well as research programs leading to the degrees of Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy.

Our areas of research in this field include aircraft design, biomaterials and biomechanics, combustion, computational fluid dynamics, design optimisation, energy production, field robotics, flight mechanics, fluid dynamics, materials and manufacturing, navigation and control, rheology, smart structures, structural mechanics, thermofluids, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flight systems, and flight control and navigation systems.
