University of Sydney World Scholars

The World Scholars program is for commencing international students undertaking a PhD in any discipline. The application process is highly competitive with scholarships awarded on the basis of research potential and academic merit. Scholarship holders should demonstrate, in their application, an outstanding academic track record and capacity to engage in innovative and world class research.

Each year the University will invite applications from selected participating countries. For 2008/09, these include: Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, European Union, Kenya & South Africa

Australian Development Scholarships (ADS)

  • ADS provide opportunities for people from selected countries to study in Australia. They are funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) as part of Australia’s foreign aid program.
  • Scholarships are for full time study.
  • Students may apply for a scholarship under the Open or Public category. Those applying under the Public category are government sector employees in their home country
  • Students may undertake a Masters program by coursework, a Masters program by research or a PhD.
  • Applications are submitted to the AusAID office in your home country by their specified closing date

Australian Leadership Awards (ALAs)

  • ALAs are awarded to people who are already leaders or have a potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform in and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia Pacific Region.
  • Scholarships are available for masters or doctoral study in Australia.
  • ALA applications are made direct to AusAID, however applicants are required to have an offer of admission from the University for entry into full time study before applying for the scholarship.

Endeavour International Postgraduate Scholarships (EIPRS)

  • The Endeavour IPRS enables international students to undertake a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers.
  • Scholarships are open to students of all countries (except New Zealand) and are available for a period of two years for a Masters by research degree or three years for a Doctorate by research degree.

Endeavour Postgraduate Awards

Asia Development Bank – Government of Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP)

  • ADB-JSP offers opportunities to talented individuals from its member countries to pursue postgraduate studies.
  • Available for Master of Engineering in Civil, Chemical and Biomolecular and Areospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering.

School of Electrical and Information Engineering

Norman I Price scholarship for all full-time research students

The Norman I. Price Supplementary Scholarship will be awarded to enrolled full-time PhD and MPhil students in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, under the following conditions.

1. The value of the scholarship will be $3,500 per Semester and the scholarship terminates at the end of six semesters enrolment for PhD candidates and two semesters enrolment for MPhil candidates. The scholarship is extendable for one semester subject to receipt of an application from students, approved by the Director Postgraduate Studies. This application must be received at least one month prior to the end of the normal scholarship period.

2. Student who complete an MPhil before commencing the PhD will be eligible for the full term of the scholarship for the PhD. This will be effective immediately for all:
(a) MPhil students enrolled in first semester 2004 and after that.
(b) PhD students who have been enrolled since first semester 2002.

3. The conditions and the value of the award will be reviewed at the end of each Semester.

4. Students are required to notify the Graduate School of Engineering and IT, in writing, of any change in their enrolment that would affect this award, e.g. change from full-time to part-time, or change in financial status.

(Supplementary scholarships are awarded to students who have been successful in obtaining other scholarships such as an APA scholarship)

The Electrical and Information Engineering Postgraduate Coursework Scholarship

Available to applicants who wish to undertake a Master of Engineering (ME) degree in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, and who do a project as part of the Master of Engineering. Several scholarships of $12000 are available to suitably qualified applicants.
