Biographical details

Dr Rona Chandrawati graduated with a BSc (Dean's List) in Biotechnology from Monash University and obtained her PhD from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at The University of Melbourne in 2012. She was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship to work in the Department of Materials and Bioengineering at Imperial College London prior to joining The University of Sydney as a Lecturer in 2015. In 2017, she commenced her ARC DECRA Fellowship and is a co-investigator on an ARC Linkage and an ARC Training Centre for Musculoskeletal Biomedical Technologies. Dr Chandrawati has published in high-impact journals including Science, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, ACS Nano with > 1000 citations. She has received AUD 1M in competitive funding as a Lead Chief Investigator.

Dr Chandrawati's research is interdisciplinary in nature, exploring the interface between bionanotechnology, bioengineering, cell biology, chemistry and materials science. Her research group focuses on high quality fundamental science and translational research for monitoring, improving and maintaining health. Her research interests include developing enzyme-like catalysts for drug delivery; designing polymeric- and lipid-based nanomaterials for sensors in food safety and health monitoring; and bioengineering synthetic mimics of cells.
